What our students say

“Awesome place with great people”

“The very best place I've ever gone to school and Filipe's the best instructor I ever had as he pay's attention to his student's and their need's!!! A'ho!”

“Pure Life is a great place to train. My 5-year-old daughter takes classes here and really enjoys it. Professor Felipe and the instructors are patient with the kids and maintain a safe, clean, and structured environment. Definitely worth checking out if you're looking for a local martial arts school for your family”

“Professor Felipe is a legit MMA fighter and true martial artist. He is passing on his knowledge and technique to his students in a welcoming family environment.”

“The best!”

“Pure Life is a great gym that is free of egos yet full of men and women that are supportive of each other on and off the mats. Great training partners led by a fantastic professor and good man, Felipe Portela. I felt welcome from day one of my Jiu Jitsu journey. I am grateful to be a part of the Pure Life family!”

“Felipe is great professor, the culture is warm and welcoming, all with goal to foster friendship and making your Ju-Jitsu game better.”

“My daughters and I have been training at Pure Life Martial Arts for many years now, and I can't say enough good things about the place. Professor Felipe is not only an incredibly knowledgeable and skilled instructor, but also a great person who genuinely cares about his students and their progress. What really sets Pure Life apart is the atmosphere. It's a welcoming, ego-free environment where everyone feels like part of an extended family. It's a great place for both adults and kids, and whether you're brand new to Jiu-Jitsu or have years of experience, you'll feel welcome and challenged. If you're looking for quality instruction, a positive environment, and a great group of people to train with, I can't recommend Pure Life enough.”

“We heard about Pure Life from a friend of ours, and it has been the best decision of my son’s and my lives! ❤️ A little backstory: my son has cerebral palsy (CP) and struggles with using the left side of his body. We started at Pure Life a little over a year ago, and the progress he has made has been nothing short of amazing. When we first started, he could barely do any of the warm-ups, even with Felipe’s help. Now, with Felipe’s guidance and encouragement, he can do all of the warm-ups and is actually using the left side of his body more. That alone feels like a miracle to us! 🙏❤️ Felipe and his family are some of the kindest, most wonderful people I have ever met. I can’t thank Felipe enough for everything he teaches, his constant positivity, and the genuine care he shows everyone. He is truly an incredible person who makes a difference in people’s lives. I highly recommend Pure Life to anyone thinking about giving it a try. You never know how much it could change your life, just like it has changed ours! Thank you, Pure Life, for everything you do. We are forever grateful for you, Felipe, and your amazing family! ❤️”

“Love Pure Life Martial Arts! When I started, I had never done anything related to kickboxing or self-defense, but Felipe is a great instructor and is wonderful with all skill levels. Mondays for Women’s Self-Defense is such a fun but useful class as we practice techniques to stay safe as women, and I love the kickboxing class on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The community at Pure Life is amazing overall.”

“Would rate 10 stars if I could! I’ve been training here for almost 2 years. Walked in not knowing what to expect and found a community of amazing people who train hard and respect one another.”

“I have trained at many gyms across the nation and am so glad to call pure life home! If you are a beginner or training for a professional fight, Felipe is the best. Relaxed, no ego vibes with competitive roles.”

“Love the team and everybody is very receptive and helpful. Recommended!”

“Starting my jiu-jitsu journey at Pure Life Martial Arts has been one of the best decisions I’ve made! From day one, everyone has been so welcoming, supportive, and always willing to help each other grow. Professor Felipe is an amazing instructor who genuinely cares about his students and wants to see everyone improve and succeed. The atmosphere is incredible, and it truly feels like a family. I couldn’t have asked for a better gym or professor to start my jiu-jitsu journey with. Highly recommend Pure Life Martial Arts!”

“Excellent coaches, friendly and fun atmosphere, plus great kids classes. Felipe is the real deal, great with everyone from adults who want to pursue MMA down to 3rd graders looking for exercise or discipline”

“I’ve been training at this gym for a few weeks now. I had previously trained once a week for about a year, and then took a year off, so I have extremely limited knowledge and experience. When I first walked into the gym I was a little nervous, but I’ve had a wonderful experience. Everyone has been extremely welcoming. The owner/coach is really kind and patient, and has taught all of his students/members the same disciplined approach that has made me feel right at home. Training here 2x per week has become one of my favorite parts of my week, and I’m learning much faster than I thought possible. I’m learning from all of the members, and everyone has a great time at each class. Really happy I joined. 10/10 would recommend to both newcomers and experienced upper belts. To whoever reads this, I hope to see you at the gym sometime so you can have the same experience I’ve had.”

“Great gym with good vibes! Felipe has an excellent teaching/coaching style!”

“They teach the kids respect and discipline and they leave smiling every time.”

“Definitely one of the best martial arts gyms in the area! Pure Life has an amazing community, great people, and a really welcoming atmosphere. Felipe is not only an awesome instructor but also a genuinely great person. He really cares about his students, takes the time to help everyone improve. Whether you’re just getting started with BJJ or have been training for years, I highly recommend this place. They also offer great kickboxing classes! Awesome people, great vibes, and a place that really feels like a family!”

“By far the best place around to train at any level. Professor Felipe is great with children and can teach any discipline all the way through top level MMA. My entire family has gone there and I could not be more impressed with the quality of training, and the quality of the people that attend the gym. More importantly, he is a great family man and cares about the community In which he lives and works. For sure, this is the spot to come and train, novice or experienced… This is the place to be.”

“I train at Pure Life along with my kids and nephews, and we all love it. It's a safe, welcoming place for all ages and skill levels, and the kids look forward to going every week. Felipe is the best. He's patient with the younger ones and very knowledgeable at every level. The gym has a laid-back feel that comes from being part of the local surf community, but the instruction is top notch. If you're looking for a place to train or get your kids started in BJJ, I highly recommend it.”

“My favorite part of the day is stepping in the mats and training with Felipe. Great atmosphere and id recommend for every level”

“Dropped in for a Saturday open mat while on vacation. Everyone was welcoming and had plenty of technical and fun rolls. Highly recommend.”

“Had the opportunity to roll with the crew at Pure Life Martial Arts. Had a great time. Plenty of upper belts ready to help you fix the holes in your technique. Looking forward to my next visit.”

“Pure Life has been my home gym since the beginning of 2025. Professor Felipe Portela is a world class BJJ instructor and a family-oriented man with a heart for growing others. The people that train here recognize the importance of creating a welcoming space that challenges you physically and mentally. If you're looking for a place to train BJJ in Brevard, this is it!”

“Both of my kids go to Pure Life Martial Arts, and we’ve had a great experience. The instructors are great with kids, and Felipe is the best. It’s a clean, welcoming, family-friendly place, and my kids really enjoy going. Highly recommend for families.”

“I was invited by a friend to take a Yoga class there. I was a bit concerned because I've only taken two online classes prior to this. She said it was a beginner's class, so I went. Ryan, the instructor, was amazing. There were people of all abilities doing Yoga, and Ryan made sure we all felt comfortable doing what we could. The studio was big, clean, and airy. Definitely recommend it.”

“In town for business and joined the morning nogi class. Great experience with coach Nick and the crew. Welcome and on point instruction. No egos, just good rolls.”

“Our granddaughter, (5 years old), has been enrolled in Pure Life Jiu Jitsu for the past month under the leadership of Felipe. She thoroughly enjoys the class and looks forward to every lesson. Felipe is a Master Teacher and focuses on safety, respect, and technique. He is demanding and yet gentle. He has the skill to take complex movements and break them into small parts that children can understand and execute. I highly recommend Pure Life and appreciate all Felipe has done to build our granddaughter's skills and self-confidence.”

“Pure Life Martial Arts is a good school. They offer Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ), Kickboxing, and Women's Self Defense Classes. I train in Taekwondo and Hapkido but when I train here at Pure Life, the Kickboxing and the BJJ complement my Taekwondo and Hapkido well, respectively. The instructors are great here as well. I recommend Mr. Felipe Portela and Mr. Steve Miller, both Black Belts in BJJ.”

“This is a great gym, everyone’s really welcoming and professor Felipe is friendly and has great instruction. Very chill vibe 🤙”

“I love this school! It’s a clean, fun, family friendly environment that provides first class instruction from Professor Felipe. You will feel welcome and you will enjoy your time spent here!”

“Pure Life is my home gym. I love this place, the people I train with, and the professor who owns the gym. The kid's class is fantastic as well.”

“Felipe is the real deal (UFC pro) and has created an awesome BJJ gym with a great team! The environment is very welcoming, clean, and safe. The whole family is welcome and I often bring my young children to train. If you are looking for a friendly group who train hard and push each other to be better (inside and outside the gym) this is your place to be!”

“Great and friendly place. Philipe is a great instructor so are all the others -TJ. Shane , Steve and the rest I can’t remember their names. But all the kids love it! They go out of their way to make everyone feel comfortable in uncomfortable situations.”

“Fantastic gym with knowledgeable and friendly instructors. TJ, Shane, Greg, and Alex have all been welcoming and helpful as I've started to learn BJJ over the past month. Highly recommend.”

“Great academy. Felipe is an absolute beast on the mat. He's also a great instructor and is passionate about Jiu Jitsu. Everyone has been very welcoming whenever I have dropped in to train.”

“Great beachside location to train! Dropped in to check it out and everyone was incredibly kind and welcoming. Stop in and check out their high level BJJ. Highly recommend!”

“I have been training jiu jitsu for 6 years, and what is most important to me is feeling safe and supported in the environment I am in, this is just as important as the caliber of instruction. Both of these facets were met when I came in to visit. There is no ego, no hostility, and there is truly a team/family energy that made me feel very welcome. If you are a woman or a man, any age, any circumstance, I can say with confidence this place will be for you. Thank you so very much for welcoming me into your gym. It was an honor and pleasure.”

“Traditional BJJ school with welcoming people and a clean and safe environment. Nothing but great vibes all around. I look forward to training more here in the near future. Thanks for having me!”

“Great atmosphere and was treated like a regular on my first visit. Jiu-jitsu trained how it should be with an elite professor and good talent in the room.”

“Attended Mon AM class as a visitor, treated like a regular. Couldn't ask for a better visit. Great de la riva class, super clean, members are welcoming.”

“I'm incredibly impressed with Pure Life Martial Arts. Felipe is a talented yet ego-free fighter, who creates a safe, clean, and supportive environment for athletes to train. Whether you are just starting out or years into your journey, he finds time to coach, mentor, and teach men and women about the martial arts journey.”

“My whole family goes to this place. When you meet the owner, you know you're coming in for some real jiu jitsu. Felipe's thick, yet understandable accent, eclectic and sometimes odd warm-up music choices really deliver a sense of Brazilian authenticity. Not only will you get phenomenal instruction on one of the greatest sports of all time (ping pong being #1), you also will learn how to count to 20.... in Portuguese! The blue, purple, and black belts do a phenomenal job of humbling my superiority complex which my wife loves. The only negative I'd have to say is that on Monday, the pizza place next-door is closed, so you have to walk a whole other store over to get an ice cold Coors Light... pre/ post training... or both. All kidding aside... Love this gym. my wife, oldest son, and I go there. The kids class is great, the adult class, both kick boxing and jiu jitsu is a blast. Not only is the instruction excellent, the gym members are as well. Its a great community, come check it out!”

“Pure Life is a family environment with top quality instruction.”

“Great professor, awesome students! Best martial arts gym in Brevard.”

“I have been training here since July and absolutely love the environment and level of instruction. I have trained at many BJJ places around the country and this feels the most like family. Love it.”

“Had the pleasure of drop in training with the Pure Life crew tonight, all I can say is if your in beachside you should be hitting this place up. Top notch instruction from a rock star black belt. The training partners are welcoming and the general vibes are spot on. Will be back when in town.”

“Great People and atmosphere! Every training partner has been kind and thoughtful to all skill levels. Beginners are welcomed with open arms”

“Best Jiu jitsu school in Brevard county!”

“Coming with no martial arts background, the Pure Life family changed my life. Not only did I learn self defense, jiu jitsu and kickboxing, it was about the invisible lessons that were taught such as discipline and determination. Whether you're looking to come and make friends or come to test yourself seriously, the Pure Life family is always welcoming for everyone's goals.”

“I recommend the Pure life gym for you who like a healthy life. There you have several options for martial arts. Felipe is a great professional !!”
